There is recent talks that come next year, anyone less than
18 n aged above 35 cannot operate at the Scape Bazaar:)
The whole vicinity of Scape which is deemed to be a youth market
will be off limits to older vendors who have been there since the
weekend market starated! The Scape Underground shops which are
newly opened started the whole episode of age limit:( I have been
at Scape Mall for nearly two years and it is not exactly a bed of roses
to operate a business in the open space. We are baked directly under
the hot sun and at times drenched by the sudden downpour in view of
the erratic weather in Singapore! Selling under the sun moon n stars not
to mention the mosquitoes bites, is not a good idea to carve out a career
as deem by some Authority to let only youngsters have an opportunity
to try their hands at business.
My point of view would be a mix vendors of
young n old would be ideal. The older vendors can both mentor as well
as teach the younger generation the art of managing a business based on their
past experiences:) Strictly speaking, rules and regulations are set by people
and I don't see why it can't be flexible and why capped the age limit at 35?
Can the mass market in Singapore sustain a youthful market? We shall see
the performance of the shops in Scape Underground in six months' time:)
The Management is considerate enough to see some of us and hear our
views and I was told I may be the exceptional few who can continue to
sell my handmade stuffs in view of my business nature:) But what fun will
it be if most of my business counterparts are not there! We are there at
Scape during the weekends to sell our things as well as to catch up with
each other! The saying 'Old is Gold' is definitely not welcome at Scape
Mall anymore:)
